Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art / combat sport / self-defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger opponent by using leverage and proper technique (mostly by applying joint locks and chokeholds). Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is trained for a variety of reasons. Some train for self-defense, some for sport grappling, MMA fighting, or just a fun way to get into shape. Sparring (or rolling) is a big part of training; this assures that the techniques you learn are applicable in a real world situation.

NEW WAY MARTIAL ARTS BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU PROGRAM (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is not only a great way to learn to defend yourself but also a great way to get into shape, get back your self-confidence, and meet awesome people who will encourage you along the way.
You may not know that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is considered to be the most effective “real world” self-defense martial arts out there. That is why the United States Military implemented its techniques into basic training. If you have seen MMA / UFC fights on TV, then you know that BJJ is a skill that the fighters must have to be successful as a professional fighter.

New Way Martial Arts is a proud affiliate of RCJ Machado Jiu Jitsu, under the tutelage of Master Carlos Machado. Master Carlos is the Nephew of Helio and Carlos Gracie, the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TRAINING SESSION

Focus for class: We come to our knees or sit Indian style on the mat in silence. We take some guided breaths and focus on our training for the day. This is intended to help you clear your mind from the normal clutter you may have accumulated during your day.

10-15 min warm up: During this portion we will do exercises that are designed to warm up our body and develop the muscle memory that is required to perform the various techniques involved in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

20-30 min technique: During this portion you will learn 2-3 techniques one at a time from the instructor. After each technique is shown you will practice them with a partner to solidify the movements in your memory and refine your skill in performing the technique.

10-15 min drilling or sparring: During this time we will practice certain positions in a real world environment. Students will be encouraged to practice with increased intensity. This is where you find out which techniques will realistically work for you in a self-defense or competition situation. (Note: you do not have to participate in this portion until you are comfortable doing so. You may continue working technique if you choose.)


Boxing

Boxing is one of the most rewarding and challenging sports available to people who are serious and ready to get into shape. If you want to start an active lifestyle or compete in the many ranks of amateur boxing (Golden Gloves, and even Pro boxing), training is a must! The combination of athleticism, physical/mental conditioning, sportsmanship, and self-worth are the values that you will develop while you are training in a Boxing Program. Boxing will teach you to rely on yourself, value the input of others, and most importantly respect both your skill and the skill of your opponent. You will develop a level of self-confidence that you will carry with you for the rest of your life!

For your first boxing class, if you don't have equipment (Gloves and Wraps), we have Boxing Gloves to borrow you until we order you your own equipment. We can offer better quality and prices than the local sports stores. Our orders typically come in within a few days. The only thing you will need for the first class is $10.60 to buy your own wraps, which we have in stock.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TRAINING SESSION

Warm-up - A complete head to toe warm-up. Its purpose is to safely prepare your muscles and tendons for the rest of the session.

Conditioning - This is typically a transition from the warm-up into some boxing specific strength and conditioning exercises. These are resistance exercises that emphasize muscular strength and endurance, speed, tone and anaerobic conditioning.

Technique - New techniques are introduced in each session. The objective is to build from the basics, such as fundamental punches, to more complex combinations and defensive maneuvers.

Hitting Drills - These are the heart of the program. Timed rounds are employed in a circuit training format that works everything from focus mitts to target shields to heavy bags and more. This is highly anaerobic, involving rounds (work intervals) interspersed with active recovery periods. After a series of these rounds, you will be refreshingly exhausted, de-stressed and invigorated.

Cool Down - This gets your heart rate down while you stretch out and improve your flexibility. It can also serve as a Q&A and planning session with your instructor.


Judo

Judo has many benefits. It teaches discipline and loyalty. Students learn how to break fall which may save them in life outside of practice. Judo will teach a person to defend themselves both on and off the mat. There are classes for Kids and Adults. In Classes, you will learn the history of judo, judo etiquette, and judo techniques like standing, ground work, pins, chokes and arm bars. The instructors Jerry Wee and His Daughter Emily Berger are Olympic Level Athletes. So, you are learning from very high level Black Belt Judo Practioners. Muay Thai Kickboxing and Yaw-Yan Kickboxing

Our class is designed to be an entire body workout. In our class, you will do as much punching as kicking to engage alot more muscle groups at one time. Combine this class with 1 or 2 Boxing Classes a week and expect to see a difference in your body's tone fairly quickly depending how you apply yourself. Stick with it and be in the best shape of your life in no time.

We mainly teach in the style of Muay Thai, but from time to time we may mix in a variety of other styles to give you different options in fighting style, whether in a match or for fitness. The format for a class session is pretty similar to a Boxing Class. Except during Mitt work and Bag work you will also be including kicking techniques.

Just like Boxing,we have gloves for you to borrow for class although we highly suggest buying your own gloves when you are able to. We offer better quality and prices than the local sports stores. Kids and Family Kudo Classes

Our Kudo/Karate program is for kids age 4 years and older, as well as adults. Kids Karate class is for ages 4-10 and Family Karate class is for all students age 10 and up. We offer a very friendly environment to learn and grow in. Our instructors are very professional and know how to take your goals to the next level. As with all of our classes you can try your first one for free!!

At New Way Martial Arts we believe Karate is training for the mind, perhaps even more so than training for physical performance. Our program is designed to improve focus, awareness, observation, patience, and mental processing. This training is important for students of all ages. We emphasize a balanced approach to training your mind and spirit; there is no lack of focus on improving our physical stamina, strength, balance, and agility. While sport and competition is a part of what we do, it is secondary to karate as a means of personal development. Karate is for life; it will help you to be safe, to endure, to succeed, and to grow. It is our goal to create in every student an indomitable spirit to overcome all obstacles and achieve their absolute best.

Karate is a striking art using punching, kicking, knee strikes, elbow strikes and open hand techniques such as knife-hands, spear-hands, and palm-heel strikes. Along side with these variety of techniques there is an dedicated focus on personal development as well. With every rank we have a seven stripe system that focuses on the samurai code of ethics known as Bushido. Courage, Compassion, Politeness, Honesty/Sincerity, Respect, Honor, and Justice are the seven codes of Bushido. Every student needs to know these concepts and ideals. It is required to demonstrate such concepts both in class and in every day life to improve in rank as well as in character.


Krav Maga Classes

We are bringing Krav Maga back. What is Krav Maga? It is the official combat system for the Israeli Defense Forces and preferred by the U.S. Military and Law Enforcement agencies. Simplistic and instinct-derived, Krav Maga is quickly learned and implemented even under extreme situations and duress. This principal based self defense helps in developing the tools and mindset needed to survive a dangerous, violent and potentially lethal situation. Classes will involve some basic combative techniques, self defense scenarios and some weapons training and defense.

The class will be instructed by two experienced krav maga instructors. Bruce Politowski and Pjeter Berishaj have 20 years of combined experience in training and teaching krav maga to law enforcement, military and civilians from all walks of life and to all ages.

Fitness Classes

Full Body Blast Training is for Men and Ladies and is taught by a TRX and Functional Training Certified Instructor. TRX is great for any age and any level, whether you’re a beginner or more advanced. You make your training as hard or as easy as you want. Our Instructor will show you how. It is a very efficient way to exercise because it engages so many muscle groups at one time, including and especially your core, all while getting your cardio in. This is a FULL Body Blasting workout! This will build your endurance, strength and get you in shape and/or toned up fast. This type of training works great as way to cross train for other sports. We have to limit this Class to Ages 14 and Up.


Women's BodyFit

Class involves all different Training Tools and Various Intensity’s taught by a Functional Training Certified Female Instructor. Classes are circuit Training/Bootcamp Style, for Maximium Weight Loss and will include Strength/Weight Training, Endurance Training, Body Resistance Training, Medicine Ball Work, and of course Cardio, etc. This is a Great Class if your looking to Lose Weight or just Tone Up. The results from this class are huge. Drastic results are seen at the 3-4 Month Mark. Sooner if you can really clean up your eating. Coach Izi currently has Ladies who have seen a 25lb-45lb loss right at the 4 Month mark. This Style of Training is Highly Effective and will turn your Body into a Calorie Burning Machine. This is an all ages Class. Preferrably 14 and up.


Personal Training

Coach Izi is our Functional Training & TRX Certified Group and Personal Trainer. Sessions with her will always consist of functional workouts and movement specific to your needs, on a One-on-One basis or with a friend if you choose. Whatever your goal is, she has alot of experience with helping people to reach their goals and keeping them motivated. Proper Technique and making sure you have longevity at whatever you train in is always her Top Priority. Along with making sure you get the most out of your session.
